Donald J. Trump may be superstitious around April 1st but I’m not. (Penned on April 1st, 2025)

The reason for this chat is I want to explain the meaning behind my poem, “The Ramblings of a Tortured Mind.”

I first began writing The Stork in 1983, it was twelve verses, then I put it away and only recovered it in 1985. I wrote one more verse and the title: “The Ramblings of a Tortured Mind,” in two words. “Alleged and Henceforth.” After my hospital stay, I struggled but could not find the words to conclude the poem.

In 1995 (August) I began writing the verses that would conclude my intentions. I wanted my kids to know where I was coming from, and that was the driving force for the completion of my poem. It spans a six year period when I was legally adopted and mostly encompasses the abuse that I endured.

I showed it to my Psychiatrist at the time, shortly after completion and it must have been around then, that he told me, “You should consider yourself a Prisoner of War.” I had no idea what he was talking about and promptly dismissed the idea.

When I showed my Psychiatrist in November 1995, the poem with the computer generated artwork around it, he held it up in front of me and said, “This validates it.” I wasn’t sure what to make of that statement either.

Turns out he had psycho-analyzed my writing and I only clued in long after he retired and later passed away. God rest his soul. There are references said in my poem that correlate to World War II and are reflected in my early years. This is how he came to the conclusion of P.O.W. status and remarkably, he also called me a Spy, along the order of the C.I.A.

Quite so.

After taking the drug Hal-Dol you also have no idea! A vacant space between the ears.

I was released from Hospital in June 1985. When I turned to the news on TV, it went right over my head. I had no idea what the presenter was saying. The Air India Bombing was incomprehensible and I only learned of the event years later. Most of 1985, I have no recollection of.

I discovered a poem that I had started in 1983. During my episode of Schizophrenia in 1985, I was attempting to write more when it was interrupted by this committal. It would take me another 10 years of trying before I could finish the poem.

Another time, when the number 40 came up was when I was turning 40 years old. I had a repressed memory come back to me the day before I turned 40. The memory was of me being abandoned at Bear Creek Park, in Surrey BC, At the age of 4 years.

I saw the family car drive away without me and I decided I was not going to hang around till the bears came out! I started hiking the 4 kilometers or 2.5 miles toward home. My intention was to show up on their doorstep- they were not going to get away with this!

The doorstep that I showed up on was my Adoptive Grandfathers in 1969, when I was 13 years old. 3.5 years after leaving my adoptive home, for foster care. He must have thought his prayers were answered. He and my uncle both treated me fairly.

In conclusion:

It is no wonder patients go off their meds, Hal-Dol is chief among the worst! Not only does Hal-Dol attack the brain, it also attacks the heart. This is a complication we can do without. In fact, we can do without this drug altogether. BAN HAL-DOL.

Quite so.

January 20th 2025

Wellington, New ZealandAP — New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon made a “formal and unreserved” apology in Parliament on Tuesday for the widespread abuse, torture and neglect of hundreds of thousands of children and vulnerable adults in care, many of them Indigenous.

“It was horrific. It was heartbreaking. It was wrong. And it should never have happened,” Luxon said, as he spoke to lawmakers and a public gallery packed with survivors of the abuse.

An estimated 200,000 people in state, foster and faith-based care suffered “unimaginable” abuse over a period of seven decades, a blistering report released in July said at the end of the largest inquiry ever undertaken in New Zealand.

“For many of you it changed the course of your life, and for that, the government must take responsibility,” Luxon said.

“Words do matter and I say these words with sincerity: I have read your stories, and I believe you,” he added. The Prime Minister was apologizing on behalf of previous governments too, he said.

The results were a “national disgrace,” the inquiry’s report said, after a six-year investigation believed to be the widest-ranging of comparable probes worldwide. Of 650,000 children and vulnerable adults in state, foster, and church care between 1950 and 2019 — in a country that today has a population of 5 million — nearly a third endured physical, sexual, verbal or psychological abuse. Many more were exploited or neglected.

They were disproportionately Maori, New Zealand’s Indigenous people.

In response to the findings, New Zealand’s government agreed for the first time that historical treatment of some children in a notorious state-run hospital amounted to torture, and pledged an apology to all those abused in state, foster and religious care since 1950.

Luxon’s government was decried by some survivors and advocates earlier Tuesday ahead of the apology for not yet having divulged plans for the financial compensation of those abused.
